Envisioning the Future of the Foldable iPhone with Recent Leaks
The idea of a folding iPhone is becoming less of a fantasy as whispers about its development grow louder. While the release is not expected for at least another year, the excitement continues to build among fans and tech enthusiasts alike.
To start with, it is believed that the foldable iPhone will arrive sooner than the long-rumored Apple Car. Recent leaks suggest that we might see it as early as next year. Reports surrounding the upcoming iPhone 17 Air suggest that it will pave the way for the folding model to follow.
Rumors and Insights
Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, known for reliable predictions about Apple products, has shared his insights on what to expect from the first foldable iPhone. Although nothing is confirmed until officially announced by Apple, these leaks give a glimpse into the future of this innovative device.
Kuo has indicated that the price of the foldable iPhone could be quite high, potentially ranging from $2,000 to $2,500. While this may seem steep, it is in line with current foldable options on the market, such as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which also start around $1,800. Users looking for more storage space will likely end up spending closer to $2,000 as they seek at least 256GB of memory.
Design and Features
According to Kuo’s analysis, the foldable iPhone is expected to feature a book-style design rather than a flip-phone style. The internal display may measure 7.8 inches and be crease-free, paired with a smaller 5.5-inch outer display, which is anticipated to be more user-friendly than that of current models like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6. The device's thickness, when opened, could range from 4 mm to 4.8 mm, possibly due to design principles set by the iPhone 17 Air.
TouchID might return, reimagined as a side button, similar to features found in the Z Fold 6. There are suggestions that Face ID might not be included in this model due to space constraints within the device. The camera setup may consist of two lenses, but there could only be one front-facing camera, which many users may prefer over an internal camera traditionally found in competing foldable devices.
Production Timeline
Kuo mentioned that the specifications for this foldable iPhone should be finalized by the second quarter of this year, with development officially starting in the third quarter. If everything goes as planned, production could begin by the end of the year. Interestingly, there are already talks about a second-generation foldable iPhone aimed for mass production in 2027. This certainly ramps up the excitement for Apple fans who might feel envious of the current advancements in Android devices.
Anticipating the iPhone 17 Air
For now, attention will be on the iPhone 17 Air, which is set to launch this fall alongside the rest of the iPhone 17 lineup. It is anticipated to have a slim profile, around 5.5 mm thick, setting the stage for future releases, including the much-anticipated folding model.
