Apple’s Foldable iPhone: A Potential Price Shock for Consumers

Published March 6, 2025

The idea of Apple releasing a foldable iPhone has remained largely speculative, yet hints have emerged from industry insiders about its possible features and pricing. Recently, renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo highlighted that this highly anticipated device could come with a hefty price tag, raising the eyebrows of potential buyers.

Kuo estimates that Apple’s foldable phone could retail between $2,000 and $2,500. For context, Samsung's latest foldable offering, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, is priced at approximately $1,900, indicating that Apple may position its product at a premium level.

One of the key reasons for this anticipated pricing, according to Kuo, is Apple’s strong brand identity. Apple is known for high-quality devices, and to maintain this reputation, the company may decide to set a higher price point, assuming the hardware will also meet consumer expectations.

Kuo also mentioned that interest in a foldable iPhone would likely remain strong, even with a larger financial investment required from customers. This suggests that Apple fans could be willing to pay more for an innovative device from the tech giant.

Several features could help justify the premium price. Kuo notes that Apple aims to develop a crease-less design for the foldable phone, an innovation no other smartphone manufacturer has completely achieved yet. The closest rival, Oppo’s Find N5, has made significant strides towards this goal.

In terms of materials, Apple plans to use a Titanium alloy for the phone's chassis, along with a possible stainless steel-titanium composite for certain internal components, similar to the materials used in the iPhone 16 Pro models.

When unfolded, the device is expected to be notably thin, measuring around 4.5 to 4.8 mm, comparable to sleek foldable models like the Honor Magic V3 and Oppo’s recent offerings. The battery technology will reportedly utilize a high-density formula that is also being considered for the upcoming iPhone 17 Air model.

However, it’s important to note that Kuo emphasizes that these projections are not finalized. The ultimate specifications will likely be determined by the second quarter of 2025, with mass production scheduled to begin in late 2026. Apple’s foldable iPhone could potentially debut in the market during the second half of 2027.
