First Look at Apple’s Sky Blue MacBook Air

Published March 6, 2025

The newly unveiled M4 MacBook Air features a refreshing sky blue color, but visually, it remains largely unchanged from the previous year's model. We had the chance to get hands-on experience and provide some detailed pictures of this device.

For 2025, Apple has introduced five key updates across its refreshed 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Airs. One of the most significant updates is the M4 chip, which shares similarities with the base 14-inch MacBook Pro model. The M4 chip in the Air features a 10-core CPU and an 8-core GPU, offering improved performance.

Moreover, the Air now comes equipped with a 12-megapixel Center Stage webcam, a feature also borrowed from the MacBook Pro line. This webcam has a wider field of view and can track the user within the frame, enhancing video call experiences. Additionally, the MacBook Air now supports two external monitors while keeping the lid open, making it suitable for a triple-monitor setup.

The new sky blue color replaces the traditional space gray option. Other colors such as starlight, silver, and the unchanged midnight are still available. The new shade of blue has a light metallic finish—it can even be mistaken for silver under certain lighting conditions. Some might consider it a subtle hue, perhaps even calling it "non-committal blue."

Another exciting update is the reduction in starting prices. The 13-inch MacBook Air starts at $999, while the 15-inch model starts at $1,199. This is a welcome change, especially as the 13-inch model had a price increase during the M2 generation. Even though the M4 Air may seem like a slight upgrade with a new color option, the $100 price drop could make it more appealing.

In addition to the MacBook Air, we also got a first look at the latest Mac Studio models featuring the M4 Max chip and a new M3 Ultra chip. While the exterior of these models remains the same, the internal enhancements are substantial for professionals engaged in intense creative work or local AI projects.

We also encountered the new iPad Air featuring the M3 chip. While it presents a refined experience, it is essentially still an iPad that maintains a familiar design.

Apple's latest Macs and iPads are available for order now and are set to hit the market next week. Below, you’ll find a collection of our photos showcasing these new products.

MacBook Air M4

The 15-inch MacBook Air continues to be impressively thin and light, especially considering its display size.

The 13-inch model easily passes my "three-finger test," a personal standard for device portability.

Yes, the sky blue color remains consistent throughout images, though it appears quite silver-like in various lighting.

The port selection remains unchanged, with one MagSafe charging port and two Thunderbolt 4 / USB-C ports available.

Admittedly, without the sticker on the starlight M3 MacBook Air, it could be mistaken for the M4 model.

Mac Studio M4 Max / M3 Ultra

The front ports on the M4 Max Mac Studio feature Thunderbolt 4, while the four rear ports include Thunderbolt 5. In contrast, the M3 Ultra model has six Thunderbolt 5 ports.

The M3 Ultra Mac Studio, while similar in appearance to its predecessors, is actually two pounds heavier than the M4 Max due to its enhanced internal cooling system.

iPad Air

The new 11-inch M3 iPad Air is being sold at $599, along with its new $269 Magic Keyboard, which adds significant value to the overall package.
