Apple Delays Siri's AI Upgrade, Leaving Users Disappointed

Apple has announced a significant delay in the expected AI update for its digital assistant, Siri. This update, which aims to incorporate advanced features using Apple Intelligence, will now be postponed to next year.

In a statement released to the media, an Apple spokesperson explained that while they have made some improvements to Siri—such as enhancing its conversational abilities and integrating it with OpenAI's ChatGPT—many of the more advanced features will require additional time to be ready.

According to the spokesperson, "We’ve also been working on a more personalized Siri, giving it more awareness of your personal context, as well as the ability to take action for you within and across your apps. It’s going to take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features and we anticipate rolling them out in the coming year."

While the exact reasons for the delay have not been officially disclosed, reports indicate that the updated version of Siri may not be ready until 2026. Some forecasts suggest that the complete revamp of Siri could coincide with the release of iOS 19 and macOS 16, both expected in the fall.

As of now, the anticipated Apple Intelligence features have not appeared in recent developer beta updates released by Apple. The company has yet to respond to requests for further comments regarding the situation.

Despite these challenges, Apple continues to work on integrating AI features across its platforms. Some of the newly rolled-out AI capabilities include customizable emojis, a generative AI image generator in Messages, and AI-driven search functionalities for Apple TV and Apple Music.

The delay in Siri's updates raises questions about Apple's overall strategy in the rapidly evolving AI landscape. Following a strong shift toward artificial intelligence in 2024, Apple outlined plans to invest $500 billion in AI research and announced a partnership with Broadcom to develop its first AI server chip by 2026.
