Verizon and Nvidia Collaborate on AI Workloads for 5G Private Networks

Published December 18, 2024

Verizon has unveiled a groundbreaking solution alongside Nvidia that allows artificial intelligence applications to operate over Verizon’s private 5G network, enhanced with private mobile edge compute.

Overview of the AI-Enhanced Private Network

The new offering, termed the 5G Private Network with Enterprise AI, integrates Verizon’s ultra-low latency 5G private network with private mobile edge compute (MEC) capabilities, combined with Nvidia’s powerful AI Enterprise software platform and NIM microservices. This collaboration aims to deliver real-time AI services directly at enterprise locations.

Supporting a Range of Applications

The AI-focused private 5G platform is designed to accommodate a variety of computation-heavy applications, including generative AI large language models, video streaming, IoT devices, and complex computer vision tasks. This modular stack promotes innovation among third-party developers by offering multi-tenancy, enabling it to serve multiple customers and use cases.

“We are utilizing our network's unique strengths, including our leadership in private networks and mobile edge compute, along with Nvidia’s AI computing capabilities, to facilitate real-time AI applications that demand security, ultra-low latency, and high bandwidth,” stated Srini Kalapala, Senior Vice President of Technology and Product Development at Verizon.

Benefits of the Solution

Verizon asserts that this combined solution is optimized for real-time AI processing, boasting the ultra-low latency essential for rapid decision-making. The high bandwidth capabilities inherent to a private 5G network significantly enhance performance for data-heavy AI tasks while also providing enhanced security and data management.

Companies using Verizon’s private networks can directly execute their AI application workloads right at the edge with MEC, allowing for localized processing that reduces the time required for data to traverse the internet.

Conclusion

“The integration of Nvidia’s comprehensive AI platform into Verizon’s new offerings for private 5G networks marks substantial progress in enabling enterprises—large and small—to achieve their objectives faster through AI,” concluded Ronnie Vasishta, Senior Vice President of Telecom at Nvidia.
