Published January 19, 2024

The Rabbit r1, one of the most talked-about devices at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES), is integrating Perplexity AI's advanced technology to address user queries. This new partnership was highlighted by both companies in a recent announcement, marking a significant step in AI tech user interaction.

Innovative Collaboration

Perplexity AI is lending its tech expertise to power the query-response feature of the Rabbit r1, with a special promotional offer that awards the first 100,000 customers a one-year complimentary subscription to Perplexity Pro. Buyers of Rabbit r1 can now look forward to a seamless integration of real-time, precise answers owing to Perplexity's cutting-edge AI and no knowledge cutoff.

The Rabbit r1 Experience

The $200 Rabbit r1 captivated CES attendees as an innovative AI-first device. It offers the convenience of performing web searches, streaming music on Spotify, and even ordering a cab without the need to pull out a smartphone. Currently, the device does not require a monthly subscription fee, which adds to its user-friendly appeal.

Designed by Teenage Engineering, the r1 features a 2.88-inch touchscreen, a push-to-talk button, a camera, a speaker, and dual microphones, which together enhance the user experience. Rabbit has made strides in the market with 50,000 units already sold in pre-orders, and the company recently opened pre-orders for its 6th production batch of 50,000 units. For customers in Europe and the UK, Rabbit ensures delivery by the end of July for orders from this latest batch.

Perplexity's AI Integration

Perplexity AI stands out with a unique combination of in-house AI models and trusted third-party models such as Google’s Gemini, Mistra 7B, Anthropic’s Claude 2.1, and OpenAI’s GPT-4. With this mixture, Perplexity AI can deliver accurate web information through a chatbot interface on both web and mobile apps, allowing users to ask questions naturally.

While adopting a different approach compared to conventional search engines, Perplexity AI is a noteworthy competitor in the Generation AI search domain, alongside Google's Bard, Microsoft's Copilot, and You.com.

Financial Backing and Valuation

Perplexity AI recently attracted significant investor interest, securing $73.6 million in investment. The company's valuation has soared to $520 million, with the investment round led by IVP and contributions from prominent entities including NEA, Databricks Ventures, Nvidia, and high-profile individuals within the tech industry.
