iOS 18.4 Is Coming: Everything We Know So Far

Published January 28, 2025

Recently, Apple launched the iOS 18.3 update for its supported iPhones. While this update may not have introduced as many features as its predecessors, iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2, it did bring useful changes including enhanced Notification Summaries, upgrades to the mobile Safari browser, improvements to the Calculator app, and various bug fixes. With iOS 18.3 now released, the focus shifts to the upcoming iOS 18.4.

Although iOS 18.4 is yet to be released in a beta version for developers, there are already some insights into what this update might bring.

A More Aware Siri

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, iOS 18.4 is anticipated to center around a significantly improved version of Siri, connected to Apple Intelligence.

While Siri received updates in previous versions, a more substantial revision is expected in the upcoming update. This new version will potentially understand and remember users' preferences, past interactions, and device-stored information to deliver more personalized and relevant responses. This means Siri could identify your favorite contacts, sports teams, or the apps you use most frequently.

Gurman notes that this digital assistant, often critiqued for its limitations, will soon have the ability to access user data and see what's currently displayed on the screen. This context should improve the quality of the assistant’s responses. Additionally, an updated App Intents software will provide enhanced voice control across the operating system.

Moreover, Siri is expected to interact more effectively with applications, allowing users to complete tasks such as sending messages, creating reminders, or editing photos without needing to open the app manually.

Furthermore, the forthcoming iOS 18 update is likely to add support for a wider range of languages, specifically including Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Vietnamese.

Updated Emojis

Traditionally, Apple introduces new emojis with its spring iOS updates, and iOS 18.4 is expected to continue this trend. The Unicode Consortium has already approved a new set of emojis for 2025, which may include a fingerprint, a face depicting bags under the eyes, a harp, and more.

Other Potential Features

As with any iOS update, iOS 18.4 will likely include numerous bug fixes and performance improvements that enhance the device's overall stability and speed. Additionally, new security patches are expected.

Who Gets iOS 18.4?

A wide range of iPhone models will be compatible with iOS 18.4. Supported models include all phones from the iPhone 11 up to the iPhone 16 series, along with the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone SE (2nd generation), and iPhone SE (3rd generation).

However, only a select number of iPhones will support Apple Intelligence, which includes the iPhone 16 series, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

When Will iOS 18.4 Arrive?

Developers are likely to receive access to iOS 18.4 in the near future, followed closely by Apple’s public beta testers. The general public can expect the official release of iOS 18.4 around April or May.
