Published October 22, 2024

Apple has officially announced that it will launch iOS 18.1 next week, which will include a significant firmware update for the AirPods Pro 2.

The iOS 18.1 update is highly anticipated as it introduces Apple Intelligence, which is set to bring various AI features. These features include advanced writing tools, a cleanup function, notification summaries, a fresh design for Siri, and article summarization, among others.

While Apple did not specify the exact date for the release, reliable sources such as Bloomberg suggest that it is scheduled for October 28.

In addition to the AI capabilities, iOS 18.1 will also provide non-AI enhancements for iPhone users. Among these enhancements are updates to the control center, improvements to call recording and transcription, and iPhone mirroring functionalities. Notably, this update will allow third-party developers to access the iPhone's NFC chip for the first time.

It's important to note that the Apple Intelligence features will only be compatible with specific iPhone models: the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Alongside the software update, Apple will introduce new hearing health features for the AirPods Pro 2. These features will include a clinical-grade hearing aid function, a specialized hearing test, and enhanced hearing protection.

According to reports from The Verge, these hearing health functionalities for the AirPods Pro 2 will also launch next week with the new firmware update.
