Nvidia Unveils RTX 4070 and RTX 4080 Super Graphics Cards Aimed at AI Enthusiasts

Published January 9, 2024

Nvidia Corporation has made a significant move in the personal computing sphere by releasing three innovative desktop graphics chips. These new GPUs, which improve upon their predecessors, come equipped with additional components designed to enhance the use of AI directly on personal computers. This advancement means gamers, designers, and other PC users can now harness the power of artificial intelligence without depending on internet-based remote services.

AI-Enhanced Personal Computing

With a strong foothold in AI software creation within data centers, Nvidia's latest offering aims to transform the personal computer industry by introducing what they dub 'AI PCs'. Nvidia's announcement comes at a time when rivals such as Intel Corporation and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. have also begun emphasizing AI capabilities in PCs. They suggest that running AI software locally is both more secure and responsive than relying on cloud-based services.

Supercharged Performance and Accessibility

The GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER is one of the highlighted products, boasting more processing cores and enhanced memory speeds. Nvidia claims it delivers a performance boost, running AI-driven applications like Stable Diffusion XL up to 1.7 times quicker than its earlier generation GPUs. Moreover, the RTX 4080 SUPER, along with the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER and 4070 Super, promises to deliver ultra-high resolution gaming experiences with sophisticated ray tracing capabilities.

While offering these elevated features, Nvidia also emphasized affordable pricing for these GPUs, making them accessible to a wider range of consumers. The RTX 4080 SUPER is set to hit the market on January 31st for $999, followed by the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER at $799 and the RTX 4070 Super at $599.

Software Synergy and Market Position

The new hardware is complemented by new software and optimizations for AI models from Nvidia, potentially offering an improved experience on PCs, especially when compared to machines running Intel chips. This synergy is expected to lead to an 'order of magnitude' performance increase. Despite a recent decline in PC shipments, Nvidia has managed to maintain its momentum and market value, partly due to its dominance in AI chip creation for data centers.

The company's new GPUs are set to enhance gaming realism, offer more engaging in-game dialogues through AI, and provide smoother image-editing tools, expanding Nvidia's extensive ecosystem of applications optimized for its RTX technology.

Export Regulation Compliance

In addition to showcasing their new products, Nvidia clarified that the capabilities of these GPUs are compliant with the US government's restrictions on AI chip exports to China. This assurance ensures that the new chips won't face the same export challenges that impacted Nvidia's flagship GTX 4090 GPU.
