Samsung and Google Collaborate on AR Glasses
Samsung and Google have announced a partnership to develop augmented reality (AR) glasses. This collaboration was confirmed by Samsung’s TM Roh in an interview with Bloomberg. However, specific details about the project remain scarce, including any exact release date for the glasses.
No Fixed Release Timeline
According to Roh, both companies are working diligently to bring the AR glasses to market as soon as they can while ensuring the quality and readiness of the product. This means that while they are actively in development, there is no official timeline for when consumers can expect to see these glasses available for purchase.
This latest announcement comes on the heels of several notable developments in the AR field. Notably, Meta previously showcased its own AR glasses dubbed Orion. Although these glasses are not intended for commercial sale, they created significant buzz as an impressive demonstration of AR technology.
Additionally, the announcement from Samsung and Google comes after Google’s introduction of the Project Moohan mixed reality headset, which operates on Android XR. Reports suggest that these AR glasses will eventually be part of Google’s broader strategy to co-create the Android XR operating system.
Features and User Experience
In her review, a journalist who had the opportunity to try the Project Moohan headset described it as a blend of features found in both the Meta Quest 3 and Apple's Vision Pro. The user experience includes interaction methods such as pinching to select items and tapping the side to access an app launcher. A calibration process for the eyes is included, similar to what users experience with the Vision Pro.
This device also allows users to engage in immersive experiences, like watching YouTube or Google TV in a simulated environment, which showcases the potential of the technology. Users have the capability to manipulate apps, resizing and positioning them throughout their space, allowing for a personalized experience.
Samsung's Latest Phone Lineup
During their recent Unpacked event, Samsung also unveiled new details about the Galaxy S25 smartphone lineup, consisting of the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, and Galaxy S25 Ultra. This further solidifies Samsung's commitment to innovation in technology.
