Accenture and SandboxAQ Unite to Combat Quantum Decryption Threats

Published January 16, 2024

In a significant stride towards cybersecurity, Accenture has teamed up with technology firm SandboxAQ to tackle the emergent challenges posed by quantum computing to encryption. They aim to empower organizations with advanced AI and quantum computing tools to spot and fix security weak points.

Adapting to Technological Innovations

Executives forecast that a major concern come 2024 will be staying abreast of rapid technological advancements, such as artificial intelligence (AI). This worry stems from a spike in cybercriminal activities leveraging AI for malicious purposes, including increasingly sophisticated ransomware, password theft, and spear phishing tactics targeting company employees.

The Shift to Zero-Trust Architecture

As a means of protection, businesses are shifting towards zero-trust architecture, necessitating robust cryptographic management. Accenture's collaboration with SandboxAQ is set to deliver comprehensive, AI-driven management of cryptography via SandboxAQ's Security Suite. This solution promises to scrutinize a company’s entire data estate—covering both cloud-based and on-premise data—to protect against penetrations of firewalls and network endpoints.

Preparing for Quantum Threats

There is an urgency in this initiative as the threat from quantum computing grows, with potential for quantum-based decryption attacks to become more prevalent and menacing to encryption systems. Paolo Dal Cin from Accenture and Jack D. Hidary from SandboxAQ have both emphasized the importance of preemptive defense to fortify organizations against both current and future cyber threats, including those from advanced AI and quantum technology.

Expanding the Partnership's Scope

The partnership’s benefits are not limited to cybersecurity alone. SandboxAQ's portfolio also includes AI and simulation solutions currently in use for drug discovery and material science enhancements, as well as quantum sensing technologies, which have applications in navigation and medical imaging. This alliance is also proving beneficial to a global nonprofit in healthcare by upgrading their quantum security strategy and securing their cryptographic protocols across multiple countries.

A Roadmap for Post-Quantum Security

Accenture has taken the initiative to develop an eight-step roadmap to post-quantum security, also creating a Quantum Security Maturity Index to aid organizations in evaluating their quantum security readiness. Through collaborations like the one with SandboxAQ, they aim to provide clients with cutting-edge technology to safeguard data and communication systems in anticipation of a quantum future.
