Waiting For Apple Siri AI Upgrade? Big Setback In Fight With Google Gemini, Amazon Alexa
For those anticipating the Apple Siri AI upgrade, recent news may be disappointing. Apple has faced significant challenges in its AI development, particularly in the competition with voice assistants from Google and Amazon.
Delayed AI Update for Siri
Apple has officially announced that it will postpone expected AI updates for its Siri digital assistant until 2026. This delay puts Siri in a difficult position as it struggles to keep pace with competitors. Apple spokesperson Jacqueline Roy shared insights regarding this decision, stating, “Siri helps our users find what they need and get things done quickly. In just the past six months, we’ve made Siri more conversational, introduced new features like type to Siri and product knowledge, and added an integration with ChatGPT. We’ve also been working on a more personalized Siri, giving it more awareness of your personal context, as well as the ability to take action for you within and across your apps. It’s going to take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features and we anticipate rolling them out in the coming year.”
Impact on Siri's Capabilities
The functionalities that were announced last June, which included Siri's ability to use personal data to enhance responses and exert better control over applications, are now set to launch sometime in 2026. Initially, these features were expected to be part of the iOS 18.4 software update scheduled for April. Apple has not provided a detailed explanation for the delay, merely attributing it to a protracted development process.
Growing Competition from Google and Amazon
The timing of Apple's Siri delays is notable as competitors like Amazon and Google continue to innovate with their voice assistants. Recently, Amazon has unveiled plans for an upgraded version of its Alexa assistant, although the release date for the new model has yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, Google is making strides with its Gemini assistant by developing enhanced capabilities.
