Published March 1, 2024

As MWC Barcelona 2024 wraps up, significant advancements in telecom, artificial intelligence (AI), security, and sustainability have been showcased by industry giants such as Cisco, Google, and others.

Telecom Innovations

In a notable move for the telecom sector, Cisco has teamed up with Telus to introduce new 5G options aimed at enhancing IoT capabilities in various industries, including automotive technology. Cisco aims to assist car manufacturers in adding more onboard applications and services for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), while also exploring additional income avenues.

Meanwhile, Marvell Technology's collaboration with influential tech companies like Dell, Fujitsu, and Wind River seeks to provide Open RAN solutions to businesses including NTT Docomo. Open RAN promotes a more versatile and interoperable network infrastructure, with predictions that it will represent a significant portion of global RAN revenue by 2028.

Another telecom partnership at the conference involved SynaXG, Wind River, and Ampere, who are working together to redefine 5G network infrastructure with cloud-based network management and improved power efficiency. SynaXG envisions setting new industry standards through their collaboration.

ng-voice from Germany has unveiled 'Hyperscale IMS', designed to help telecom operators decrease voice production costs, enhance network management, and rollout new voice services using AI.

Advancements in AI

Geotab’s new AI product, Geotab Ace, serves as an AI assistant for connected transportation, providing access to a wealth of data while honoring privacy. Arizona-based Viavi has expanded its Testbed as a Service (TBaaS) with additional digital twin capabilities for application performance benchmarking.

Google unveiled 'Gemini', their generative AI assistant integrated into various applications, which is part of a premium plan. In addition, Gupshup is incorporating AI chatbots into rich communication services (RCS), aiming for more personalized customer interactions.

Enhancements in Security

Palo Alto Networks and their partners have rolled out comprehensive private 5G security solutions to support organizations throughout their 5G journey. BUFFERZONE introduced NoCloud AI, an anti-phishing tool running on Intel processors. Viavi adds traffic analysis features to their threat exposure management solution, Observer Sentry, to aid in vulnerability exploitation assessment.

Efforts Towards Sustainability

An MoU between Orange Business and Cisco points towards a mutual commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, providing customers with data on the environmental impact of Cisco-based solutions. GSMA has launched a platform to aid the telecom industry in achieving environmental and financial sustainability objectives.

Lastly, a partnership between NTT Data and Schneider Electric merges edge computing and IoT solutions with modular data centers to intensify energy efficiency in compute-heavy edge applications.
