ChatGPT Introduces Tasks Feature for Reminders and Recurring Tasks

Published January 15, 2025

ChatGPT, an AI chatbot developed by OpenAI, has unveiled a new feature called Tasks that allows users to set reminders and manage recurring tasks effectively. This addition aims to enhance user productivity and convenience.

The Tasks feature has been introduced as a beta option for ChatGPT users with Plus, Team, and Pro accounts. Users can now instruct ChatGPT to remind them of specific tasks, such as picking up groceries or logging work hours every week. This makes it easier to keep track of regular commitments.

How to Set Tasks in ChatGPT

To use the Tasks feature, users need to click on a dropdown menu within ChatGPT and select the option for scheduled tasks. From there, they can seamlessly manage their reminders and requests through the web application or other platforms they utilize. ChatGPT will send push notifications based on the settings users select.

In addition to reminders, the Tasks feature can be programmed for recurring tasks. This means that users can receive notifications on a regular basis, like reminding them every Friday afternoon to update their work hours.

Additional Features of Tasks

Along with reminders, the new feature also allows for scheduled web browsing. Users can instruct ChatGPT to check for specific information—like the availability of concert tickets—at regular intervals, although it cannot conduct continuous searches or make purchases.

This functionality positions ChatGPT closer to traditional digital assistants, such as Siri and Alexa. However, it is still in the early stages, with OpenAI looking to gather user feedback before rolling out the feature to a wider audience, including mobile app users and those on the free version of ChatGPT.

The introduction of the Tasks feature highlights OpenAI's ongoing efforts to develop AI agents capable of operating more autonomously. As more users turn to ChatGPT for a variety of needs—from professional assistance to personal tasks—the Tasks feature is expected to enhance user experience significantly.
