Published November 21, 2023

AI21 Labs, an innovative company in the field of generative artificial intelligence (AI) based in Tel Aviv, has achieved another milestone by raising an additional $53 million. This funding was part of their Series C financing round which cumulatively reached $208 million, with the initial $155 million disclosed previously in August. The company's post-funding valuation now stands at $1.4 billion. Notable new investors include tech industry leaders such as Intel Capital and Comcast Ventures.

Successive Financial Growth

The recent financial injection has pushed AI21 Labs's overall funding to a robust $336 million, reflecting the industry's confidence in their AI and large language model (LLM) development endeavors.

Pioneering Generative AI

Since its founding in 2017 by chairman Prof. Amnon Shashua and co-CEOs Prof. Yoav Shoham, and Ori Goshen, AI21 Labs has been at the forefront of delivering generative AI technologies. Catering to a diverse clientele from individual consumers to Fortune 100 firms, the company offers powerful LLMs and natural language processing (NLP) tools through user-friendly applications and APIs.

The company currently harbors ambitions to expand its workforce by adding 100 new employees to its existing team of 250. AI21 Labs takes pride in their AI systems that are designed for seamless integration, producing reliable and accurate outcomes, and boasting nuanced control that surpasses existing standalone models on the market.

Innovative Language Models at the Core

Central to AI21 Labs’s offerings is their proprietary Jurassic-2 foundation models, which are among the largest and most sophisticated LLMs globally. Jurassic-2 serves as the backbone for AI21 Studio, a platform that facilitates the development of custom text-based applications, and Wordtune, a multilingual AI reading and writing aide targeted at both professional and consumer segments.

Ori Goshen expresses gratitude towards their investors and emphasizes that AI21 prioritizes unique client needs over one-size-fits-all solutions. Their strategic approach aims to furnish enterprises with AI deployments that boast a deep understanding of performance-oriented language models, delivering superior value and efficiency.

Prof. Yoav Shoham echoes this sentiment, highlighting the shift towards AI Systems that integrate knowledge and reasoning with traditional statistical inference, proposing a flexible architecture that augments harmonious functioning of multiple LLMs along with discrete knowledge and reasoning modules.
