Adobe Launches New AI Video Generation Service

Published February 13, 2025

Adobe has unveiled a new subscription service that will allow users to create videos using artificial intelligence. The cost for generating each five-second video will be approximately A$0.82.

The AI-focused subscriptions include two plans: the Firefly Standard plan, costing A$16.49 per month, and the Firefly Pro plan, which is priced at A$49.49 per month. The Standard plan permits the creation of 20 five-second AI-generated videos, while the Pro plan provides the ability to generate up to 70 of these short clips.

Adobe's new Generate Video (beta) feature, supported by the Firefly Video Model, offers creators various tools for video production. This includes generating video clips based on text prompts or images, controlling camera angles, enhancing visuals from 3D sketches, developing atmospheric elements, and designing custom motion graphics.

The service initially supports video generation at 1080p resolution, suitable for high-definition TVs. For quicker iteration, a lower resolution model is available, with a 4K model set to be introduced for professional-level production in the near future.

“We’re pricing it at a lower point right now for adoption,” said Ely Greenfield, Adobe’s Chief Technology Officer of creative software, in an interview with Bloomberg. He added that when compared with competitors, Adobe's pricing remains competitive.

Adobe asserts that its Firefly Video model is unique, being the only generative AI video model that is both IP-friendly and commercially safe. The new service is integrated with Adobe's existing suite of creative tools, including Photoshop and Premiere Pro, which facilitates the seamless transfer and editing of AI-generated assets.

Users can produce AI-generated videos on Adobe’s website. Additionally, the company has previously implemented AI features in its video-editing app, Premiere, that allow users to extend video clips automatically.

The new subscription plans will also enable unlimited generation of AI photos and illustrations. Some credits associated with the plan can be utilized for AI audio features, like automatic speech translation.

To date, Adobe claims that their Firefly AI models have been utilized over 18 billion times to create various forms of media.

With the launch of its AI video generation service, Adobe aims to compete with rivals like OpenAI, whose Sora video generator allows for the creation of videos up to 20 seconds long.
