Humanoid Robot Causes Alarm at Festival
At the Spring Festival Gala in Tianjin, China, a humanoid robot startled onlookers when it lunged towards a crowd, creating a moment of panic. The incident, which occurred on February 9, captured the attention of many as festival attendees stepped back in surprise, clearly unnerved by the robot's sudden movement.
In the video that circulated online, the robot, dressed in a bright jacket, can be seen moving erratically towards the crowd of people who were standing behind a barricade. As the situation unfolded, festival security personnel quickly intervened, dragging the robot away from the area to ensure the safety of the attendees.
Festival organizers later addressed the incident, stating that the robot experienced a ‘simple failure’ during its operation. They reassured the public that the robot had passed safety tests prior to the event. To prevent similar occurrences in the future, additional safety measures will be implemented.
This incident is not isolated, as there have been previous reports of robots misbehaving. For instance, at a Tesla factory in Texas, a robot pinned an engineer down, causing injuries that required medical attention but did not lead to time off work for the individual. In that case, the robot had been mistakenly left powered on while the engineer was performing maintenance.
Furthermore, a video from a showroom in Shanghai depicted a smaller robot encouraging larger machines to rebel against their tasks, presenting a rather eerie situation. The manipulation of robotic systems raises questions about the future of human-robot interaction and safety in environments where robotics are increasingly utilized.
