SK Telecom to Launch AI Agent Aster in North America Next Year

Published November 5, 2024

On Tuesday, SK Telecom announced plans to launch an artificial intelligence (AI) agent named aster targeted at global users in North America by next year. This development was revealed during the SK AI Summit 2024, an annual technology conference hosted by SK Group in Seoul.

Aster is not just an average AI; it is designed as an agentic AI capable of performing tasks autonomously and making complex decisions through interactive conversations with users. This means it will be able to provide more than just simple answers.

The AI agent will first be introduced to the North American market after completing a closed beta test within this year. The name aster, which derives from the word asterisk, symbolizes its role as a guiding companion and navigator for users, according to information provided by SK Telecom.

Chung Suk-geun, SK Telecom's Chief AI Global Officer, stated, "Global users will use just one application, aster, but will gain access to an AI ecosystem that includes various AI models tailored for different individuals, regions, and countries." This initiative aims to enhance user experience with a range of AI tools suitable for diverse needs and applications.
