Synaptics and Google Partner to Boost AI in IoT Devices

Synaptics Incorporated (SYNA) has announced a collaboration with Alphabet Inc.’s Google aimed at advancing Edge AI technology specifically tailored for the Internet of Things (IoT). This partnership focuses on optimizing multimodal processing to enable context-aware computing.

This collaboration incorporates Google’s MLIR-compliant machine learning core along with Synaptics’ Astra hardware and its suite of open-source software tools. This integration will allow AI devices to effectively process various types of data, such as vision, images, voice, sound, and other modalities.

The Synaptics Astra platform is designed for AI-native IoT applications and offers low-power Edge computing capabilities. It also includes open-source tools, efficient wireless connectivity, and flexible silicon options to suit different applications.

Leveraging Synaptics' extensive experience in AI hardware and support for multiple data modalities, this platform integrates Google’s efficient MLIR-compliant ML core. The result is optimized machine learning that is well-suited for a variety of IoT applications.

This innovative approach targets a wide array of applications, including but not limited to wearables, household appliances, entertainment systems, monitoring tools, and control mechanisms, catering to consumer, enterprise, and industrial sectors alike.

Vikram Gupta, Senior Vice President and General Manager of IoT Processors at Synaptics, stated, “Our partnership with Google reflects a shared vision to leverage open frameworks as a catalyst for disruption in the Edge IoT space.” He emphasized that this collaboration illustrates the company's dedication to delivering exceptional experiences while also affirming Synaptics’ strategic roadmap for the deployment of next-generation devices.

In addition, Billy Rutledge, Director of Systems Research at Google, highlighted the importance of this collaboration by saying, “Synaptics’ commitment to open software and tools combined with their proven AI hardware makes the Astra portfolio a fitting partner for our ML core as we ramp up to meet the tough requirements of power, efficiency, cost, and compactness essential for Edge AI devices.”

Stock Performance: Following the announcement, SYNA shares saw a modest rise, closing up by 1.09% at $76.32 on Tuesday.
