Elon Musk’s xAI Launches 'Scary Smart' Grok 3
Elon Musk's xAI has introduced the Grok 3 series of AI models, which includes two reasoning models, an AI agent named Deep Search, and a pre-trained model that has similarities to GPT-4o.
During the launch event, Musk described Grok 3 as "the smartest AI on Earth", using various benchmark tests and graphs to showcase the chatbot's advanced reasoning abilities. Musk and his AI team claimed that Grok 3's capabilities exceed those of existing AI models.
"It truly should save you a lot of time. Something that might typically take half an hour or an hour of research could be completed in just ten minutes with Grok 3," Musk explained at the launch.
Grok 3 is expected to receive daily updates, with a voice interaction feature set to roll out within a week. The deployment of Grok 3 will begin for X Premium Plus customers, as stated by the xAI team. To access these advanced features, users need to update their X app to the latest version.
A member of the xAI team mentioned that Grok’s voice assistant is still being refined and will be available to users in the coming weeks. Musk's team is introducing a separate subscription plan called "super Grok" for enthusiasts who desire the most advanced capabilities and early access to new features.
Grok 3 Outperforms Other AI Models
At the launch, Musk and his team presented various tests and comparisons to highlight Grok 3’s benefits:
- Grok 3's speed compared to other AI models.
- Grok 3's reasoning capabilities and test duration versus other AI models.
- Benchmark results of Grok 3 against other AI systems.
Grok's New Website
The team announced that Grok's new website, Grok.com, is now live. The Grok 3 update is available through the Grok iOS app and is currently open for pre-registration on the Google Play Store, even if not mentioned during the event.
Grok 3's Computational Power
Musk described the AI chatbot as "scary smart", a statement that has resonated with tech enthusiasts, investors, and users. Many expect Grok 3 to enhance speed and reasoning while minimizing inaccuracies and hallucinations.
xAI highlighted that their Colossus supercomputer, developed in just eight months, greatly accelerated the creation of Grok 3. With 100,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs, the supercomputer provided 200 million GPU-hours for training, which is ten times more than Grok 2. This enhanced computational power has enabled Grok 3 to process large datasets more effectively, improving accuracy and reducing training time.
Grok 3 utilizes synthetic datasets and is designed to learn continuously and self-correct.
From Grok 3 To DeepSeek To ChatGPT: AI Space Heats Up
The launch of Grok 3 coincides with advancements in AI technology, particularly the impact of China's DeepSeek. DeepSeek's low-cost reasoning model R1 has reportedly cost major companies like Tesla, Nvidia, Google, Microsoft, Meta, and others billions of dollars in market value. Moreover, the Chinese AI bot gained popularity, becoming the most downloaded free app on the US Apple App Store, showing competitive performance against leading models like those from OpenAI.
