How to Disable Apple Intelligence on Your iPhone, iPad, and Mac

Published January 27, 2025

Apple has recently updated its software, including iOS 18.3, which automatically enrolls users in a feature called Apple Intelligence, particularly for newer devices. However, many users prefer not to have these generative AI features activated by default due to various reasons, such as environmental concerns, political opinions about the industry, or simply dissatisfaction with the performance of the AI features, which has led to a dedicated subreddit discussing Apple Intelligence failures.

If you're looking to turn off Apple Intelligence on your devices, we've put together a simple, step-by-step guide that works across iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

Disabling Apple Intelligence on iPhone and iPad

1. Open the Settings app on your iOS device.

2. Scroll down until you find Apple Intelligence & Siri.

3. Tap on the toggle switch next to Apple Intelligence to deactivate it. You can also disable Siri if you wish, which can enhance your privacy and security, particularly concerning Siri’s functionality on the lock screen.

Disabling Apple Intelligence on Mac

1. Click on the System Settings icon on your Mac.

2. Locate and select Apple Intelligence.

3. If it's enabled, click on the toggle to turn it off. It's also advisable to switch off Siri from this menu as well.

Upon trying to deactivate Apple Intelligence, a confirmation dialog will appear prompting you to confirm your choice.

Apple prides itself on ensuring user privacy with its AI features. The company implements a system known as Private Cloud Computer, which means that personal information is not stored on Apple Intelligence servers.
