Google Acquires Wiz for $32 Billion

Published March 18, 2025

Google has announced an agreement to acquire Wiz, a prominent cloud security startup that counts major corporations like Salesforce, Siemens, and Morgan Stanley among its clients, as well as more than half of the Fortune 100 companies.

Speculation about Google's interest in Wiz began in mid-2024, but the acquisition was temporarily postponed. Assaf Rappaport, co-founder and CEO of Wiz, confirmed via LinkedIn that a definitive agreement has now been reached, with the acquisition valued at $32 billion in cash.

In an announcement, Rappaport expressed, "Today Google has entered into an agreement to acquire Wiz! Our commitment to the Wiz mission has never been stronger: we aim to help every organization secure everything they build and run in the cloud—any cloud. We are confident that our partnership with Google will enhance this vision and allow us to fulfill it at a quicker pace.

Rappaport addressed concerns regarding potential limitations on Wiz's relationships with other cloud providers, emphasizing that Wiz will continue to function as a multicloud platform. He stated the importance of maintaining collaborations with other significant cloud players such as AWS, Azure, and Oracle Cloud. "Wiz is dedicated to expanding our partner network throughout the industry," he noted.

He also remarked that this acquisition would allow Wiz to innovate at an accelerated rate. "We’re not just maintaining our speed of innovation—we're about to ramp it up! With the vast resources available through Google Cloud, we're ready to advance more swiftly than ever."bsp;

In a blog post on Wiz's site, Rappaport reiterated the company's commitment to multicloud solutions. "Today's announcement centers on that guiding principle. Wiz and Google Cloud share a belief that securing cloud environments needs to be simpler, more accessible, smarter, and democratized, facilitating widespread and secure adoption of cloud and AI technologies by various organizations."

He continued, "We envision Wiz as a leading multicloud platform, ensuring that our capabilities remain available across all cloud environments. We will sustain our strong partnerships with AWS, Azure, Oracle, and others within the industry."

Although Wiz has made significant strides in a short timeframe, Rappaport acknowledged the urgency for the company to keep pace with the rapidly evolving cybersecurity industry: "Cybersecurity progresses at an extraordinary pace and we must too. The time is now."

From Google’s side, they confirmed that Wiz’s products will remain available across all major cloud platforms, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud. Customers will continue to access these services through various partner security solutions. Google Cloud will also provide customers with a range of partner security offerings accessible through the Google Cloud Marketplace.

The Regulatory Hurdle

A key question surrounding this acquisition is whether regulators will intervene. While Wiz does not fall under categories that have faced legal challenges for Google, such as search and advertising, the company is under closer examination.

Given that Wiz provides multicloud cybersecurity solutions, regulators may seek more than just assurances from Google that they will maintain open access to Wiz products for competitors.

This acquisition may serve as a significant test of the current administration's stance on major tech deals, especially those involving high-value firms in the technology sector.
