AMD RX 9070 XT Expected to Launch Soon
There's no need to worry about the AMD RX 9070 XT graphics card. AMD recently assured that the card will be available in just a matter of weeks.
During the CES 2025 keynote, AMD did not provide much information about its new RDNA 4 graphics cards, and the absence of detailed discussion left many fans of the brand feeling anxious. Instead, most of the initial information about these cards has come from AMD's board partners.
Launch Timeline
AMD’s Frank Azor stated, "we’re talking about weeks" until the graphics cards hit the market. He emphasized that when they refer to Q1, it certainly does not mean waiting until the end of March.
While this timeline is somewhat vague, it suggests that the RX 9070 XT could arrive sometime in late January, early February, or even into March. Azor confirmed that AMD is prepared to launch its next generation of graphics cards, noting that their absence from the presentation was due to time limitations and that they were focused on numerous announcements, including the Ryzen 9 9950X3D.
Market Positioning
A point of interest is that AMD has been observing Nvidia's moves in the market. The latest from Nvidia includes the RTX 5090 priced at $2,000, alongside other models from its new RTX 50-series. This indicates that AMD is careful about where it positions the RX 9070 XT in relation to Nvidia’s offerings. As such, AMD has chosen to steer its strategy towards mid-range cards rather than competing directly with Nvidia’s high-end models this generation.
However, the specific performance comparison remains somewhat unclear. Nvidia's performance benchmarks are under scrutiny, with concerns that its metrics may be misleading. Azor candidly shared his thoughts, stating that while he respects Nvidia, he finds their performance charts to be largely unhelpful.
Understanding RDNA 4
Despite the uncertainties, AMD stands firmly behind its RDNA 4 series. Observations from the CES event suggest that both the RX 9070 XT and AMD’s enhanced FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 (FSR 4) are in good shape. The visibility of these products at CES indicates that they are ready for the market challenge.
As AMD gear up for this significant launch, tech enthusiasts can anticipate further details and performance metrics in the coming weeks, leading up to the RX 9070 XT's release.
