Advanced Technology in Cars Showcased at CES 2025
The automotive industry is showcasing groundbreaking innovations at CES 2025, the annual technology exhibition held in Las Vegas from January 7 to 10, 2025. Cutting-edge technologies such as holographic dashboards on windshields and artificial intelligence (AI)-based voice assistants are at the forefront of this year’s event.
Hyundai Mobis: Holographic Dashboard
According to reports, Hyundai Mobis unveiled a holographic technology that displays information like speed and safety alerts directly onto the windshield. This technology also allows passengers to enjoy entertainment options, such as watching movies or playing games, without distracting the driver.
Hyundai Mobis Executive Vice President Axel Maschka explained that this innovation aims to enhance comfort and safety by keeping the driver focused on the road. Although the technology is still a few years from its market debut, it provides a glimpse into the future driving experience.
BMW: Panoramic iDrive System
BMW introduced its Panoramic iDrive system, which will be implemented in their latest models. The system projects a panoramic view onto the lower part of the windshield, providing essential information in a minimalist way to reduce distractions.
"Our goal is to present only the most crucial information without repeating unnecessary features," said BMW's Head of UI/UX Development, Stephan Durach.
Sony Honda Mobility: Future EV Innovations
Sony Honda Mobility showcased the Afeela 1, an electric vehicle equipped with an interactive AI voice assistant. This assistant is designed to proactively provide useful information and entertain the driver during the ride.
Additionally, Honda presented the AISMO OS, an operating system that will be integrated into their series 0 vehicles. This system supports various features, including automated driving and software updates.
As stated by Honda’s Global Electrification Business Development Leader Katsushi Inoue, "The system will become increasingly personalized with more frequent use."
Safety Considerations
While these innovations promise a better driving experience, safety expert Ian Reagan from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety emphasizes the importance of balancing innovation with safety. He warns that excessive visual displays or overly complex voice assistants may increase driver distraction. Simplification and focusing on the road are key, according to Reagan.
Sustainable Energy Initiatives
CES 2025 also provides a platform for EV manufacturers to showcase their efforts in supporting sustainable energy. For instance, Honda plans to make over 100,000 charging stations available by 2030 and is exploring AI integration to simplify the charging experience for customers.
