David Borish Predicts AI Will Surpass Human Intelligence in 2025

Published January 8, 2025

David Borish, a seasoned AI strategist, believes that artificial intelligence will surpass human capabilities in general intelligence in 2025. Designed to assist humanity, AI has made significant strides in recent years, leading Borish to assert this prediction.

As technology continues to evolve, the idea of advanced AI has been popular in movies like "I, Robot," "The Matrix," and "The Terminator," where machines take over human roles. Borish stated, "While some might consider it bold, I'm predicting that 2025 will be the year when AI effectively passes any human test. The advancements in reasoning models we've seen in 2024 have convinced me that we're on the cusp of this breakthrough."

Currently based in New York City, Borish is collaborating with former NFL and CFL player Brandon London on a project called "Jocks and Bots." This show merges sports, technology, and culture. It features London and Borish alongside Aila, an AI-generated female co-host, which is believed to be the first of its kind.

A challenge in AI development is the rapid pace of technological change. For example, less than a year ago, Aila was only a voice that resembled that of a robot without visual representation. The fast progress of AI makes it challenging to predict its future capabilities.

Borish emphasized, "When something becomes smarter than the smartest human that ever existed, we face unknown territories. We can't even comprehend what an entity with an IQ greater than the highest IQ we've ever recorded would be like." He also noted that the futurists who are often hired to script these scenarios in films reflect how the field of AI is moving towards what those stories portrayed.

Additionally, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, shared in a recent blog post that the industry is now focusing on achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI) and exploring pathways to superintelligence. Altman stated, "Superintelligent tools could massively accelerate scientific discovery and innovation well beyond what we are capable of doing on our own, leading to increased abundance and prosperity."

However, with advancements in AI, Borish warns of significant responsibility that comes with it. "The key to success will be maintaining a balance between innovation and responsibility, ensuring that as AI becomes more powerful, it remains aligned with human values and interests. As someone deeply involved in guiding organizations through this transformation, I'm excited to see how these predictions unfold and how they'll shape our collective future.”
