Meta to Launch Standalone AI Chatbot App

Published February 28, 2025

Meta is on track to introduce a standalone app for its AI assistant, known as Meta AI. This decision comes as the company aims to strengthen its position in the competitive market against AI-driven chatbots like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini.

According to reports by CNBC, the anticipated release of the Meta AI app could occur in the upcoming fiscal quarter, between April and June. Currently, Meta AI is accessible only through a website and within Meta's suite of applications, which includes popular platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp.

In addition to the app launch, Meta is also exploring a paid subscription model for Meta AI that promises to enhance the assistant's features, though specific pricing details have not been disclosed.

With over 700 million active monthly users, Meta AI forms a crucial part of the company’s broader strategy to assert itself as a leading player in the artificial intelligence arena. Meta has also made significant strides by releasing open models like Llama, which are intended to establish a competitive ecosystem similar to that of OpenAI.

Further emphasizing its commitment to AI, Meta plans to host its inaugural developer conference centered around AI, titled LlamaCon, which is scheduled for late April.
