Deal at Foothills Schools, Two CUPE Locals Vote to Accept Settlements

CALGARY, Alberta — CUPE Local 5040 has successfully reached a tentative agreement with Foothills School Division. This agreement marks the conclusion of negotiations for all nine school divisions that were on strike. CUPE Local 5040's agreement is a significant milestone in addressing labor disputes within the education sector.

In addition to the Foothills agreement, two other CUPE locals have also voted in favor of accepting their tentative agreements. This vote effectively ends the strikes at both the Edmonton Public School District and the Parkland School District.

Members of CUPE 3550, representing the Edmonton Public School District, overwhelmingly supported their settlement, with 93% voting in favor. Likewise, CUPE 5543 members from the Parkland Division voted 97% in favor of their agreement. Both groups are set to return to work the following day.

The negotiations have been part of a broader effort by CUPE across various school districts in Alberta to secure better working conditions and compensation for members. The new agreements are expected to bring stability back to the affected school districts, benefiting students, staff, and the community.

Upcoming Votes and Settlements

CUPE Local 5040 plans to conduct ratification votes on the agreements, which are expected to take place soon. Should the members accept the agreement, they will be back to work by Monday. In addition to these settled agreements, CUPE is anticipated to release voting results for agreements with Local 40, which represents the Calgary Board of Education, and Local 3484 for the Black Gold School Division later today.

With these recent developments, there are now ratified agreements in place for the following districts:
