Apple's Siri Development Delays: A Look Ahead to 2027
Apple is facing challenges in modernizing its voice assistant, Siri, as generative AI technology continues to evolve. According to insights from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company may not release a significantly updated and conversational version of Siri until iOS 20 is unveiled in 2027.
However, this does not imply that Apple will remain inactive in the meantime. According to reports, a new version of Siri is set to launch in May, incorporating features from Apple Intelligence that were announced almost a year prior.
Gurman describes the upcoming Siri update as having "two brains." One brain will handle traditional commands, such as setting timers and making phone calls, while the other will tackle more complex queries that utilize user data. A new integrated system, referred to internally as "LLM Siri," is expected to be revealed at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, with the goal of launching in spring 2026.
It is only after this integration, Gurman notes, that Apple can fully concentrate on enhancing Siri's advanced capabilities, which are anticipated to roll out the following year.
