iPhone 17 Pro May Introduce Wireless Reverse Charging

Apple Inc. is reportedly in the process of testing a wireless reverse charging capability for its upcoming iPhone 17 Pro models. This feature would allow users to charge other devices, such as AirPods and Apple Watch, directly from the iPhone.

What Happened: A leaker known as Instant Digital, who is based on Weibo, has indicated that Apple is working on implementing a 7.5W wireless charging feature, according to reports from various sources, including MacRumors.

This advancement could enable the iPhone 17 Pro to charge accessories more efficiently. However, it remains unclear if this feature will be available at the time of the iPhone 17 Pro's official launch.

Importance of Reverse Charging

The idea of iPhone reverse wireless charging first surfaced back in 2021 with the introduction of the MagSafe Battery Pack for the iPhone 12 and newer models. However, the MagSafe Battery Pack was discontinued by Apple in September 2023, coinciding with the transition of the iPhone 15 models from Lightning to USB-C connectivity.

Currently, iPhone devices can reverse charge accessories such as the Apple Watch and AirPods using USB-C at a rate of up to 4.5 watts. Nevertheless, the wireless reverse charging feature has not been available to consumers since the discontinuation of the MagSafe Battery Pack.

Anticipated Launch and Market Performance

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 series around mid-September. Just recently, Apple launched the iPhone 16e, a cost-effective model that comes equipped with the A18 chip and features Apple Intelligence, priced at $599.

In its fiscal first quarter, Apple announced revenue of $124.3 billion, surpassing analysts' expectations of $124.13 billion. The iPhone revenue specifically reached $69.14 billion, indicating strong performance in smartphone sales.

Iphone enthusiasts are looking forward to the potential new feature of wireless reverse charging, which could enhance the functionality of their devices.
