Microsoft Releases Copilot+ Features for AMD and Intel PCs

Published April 1, 2025

Microsoft is broadening the availability of its Copilot+ features, which were previously limited to devices using Qualcomm's Snapdragon X series. The latest updates will now be accessible on PCs powered by AMD's Ryzen AI 300 series and Intel's Core Ultra 200V processors. However, some new features, specifically the Voice Access capabilities and Simplified Chinese support within the Live Caption tool, will initially be exclusive to Snapdragon X systems.

The Copilot+ initiative is part of Microsoft's ongoing strategy to enhance Windows 11 devices that are equipped with a dedicated neural processing unit (NPU). First introduced at the previous year’s Microsoft Build event, this initiative initially centered around Qualcomm's Arm-based Snapdragon X series chips.

Copilot+ systems are categorized as AI PCs and must meet specific requirements. These include having an NPU that can handle a minimum of 40 trillion operations per second (TOPS), together with at least 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The latest generation of processors from AMD and Intel qualifies for these specifications, signaling the conclusion of exclusive features for Qualcomm devices.

Among the newly available features for AMD and Intel PCs is the Live Captions tool. This feature provides real-time translation in English for audio and video content during virtual meetings, podcasts, and video streaming. Additionally, support for Simplified Chinese is being rolled out first on Snapdragon X devices and will soon be available for AMD and Intel configurations.

Another newly accessible feature is the Cocreator in Paint. This tool allows users to utilize “enhanced drawing and editing capabilities” by combining verbal prompts with freehand drawing.

Enhanced functionality has also been added to the Photos app with two features: Restyle Image and Image Creator. Restyle Image enables users to transform photos into various artistic formats, such as oil paintings and modern art styles, with just a few clicks. Meanwhile, Image Creator can convert written ideas into visuals based on detailed descriptions provided by the user.

As for the Voice Access feature, it will only be available temporarily to Snapdragon X systems. This function allows for more flexible voice control on compatible PCs, making it easier for users to navigate complex commands and syntax previously required. According to Microsoft, this will mark the first update of Voice Access that utilizes the NPU capabilities present in Copilot+ PCs.

Other than the exclusive features related to Snapdragon X systems, including Voice Access and the Live Captions support in Simplified Chinese, the Copilot+ functionalities are now available to all compatible PCs via the latest Windows Update.
