Microsoft’s AI Chatbot to Remember Users' PC Activities
As Microsoft gears up for its annual Build developer conference in Seattle, the company is seeking to further integrate artificial intelligence into users' daily computing experiences. Microsoft has announced an enhanced version of its assistant, known as Copilot, which aims to provide a more intuitive and helpful AI chatbot that can remember each action a user takes on their PC.
Introducing Advanced Memory Features
The latest iteration of the Copilot AI boasts a new capability called Windows Recall. This function enables the AI to access a detailed history of user activities on the PC, giving it a 'photographic memory'. Microsoft ensures privacy measures are in place, allowing users to control and filter out any activities they prefer to keep private.
A Race for AI Dominance
In a landscape marked by fierce competition from other tech giants, Microsoft's introduction of the upgraded Copilot comes as a strategic move. Other companies, such as Google, OpenAI, and potentially Apple, are also making significant strides in generative AI technology, which includes functions like summarizing content, understanding images, and mimicking human interactions. OpenAI's ChatGPT, for example, showcased new capabilities, including a version tailored for Mac computers and an AI voice assistant that exhibited human-like conversational skills. Google, not wanting to lag behind, presented an AI-driven search engine and an experimental AI assistant named Astra.
Launch and Availability
Microsoft plans to release the new AI-enhanced Windows PCs on June 18. The update will first roll out to premium models produced by Microsoft's partners such as Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung, and will also include Microsoft's own Surface devices. However, these AI features will only be available on high-end models priced at $999 and above.
