Tech Mahindra Launches AI Centre of Excellence with Nvidia

Published October 24, 2024

Tech Mahindra has officially announced the opening of a new Centre of Excellence (CoE) that is powered by Nvidia platforms. This initiative aims to enhance the development of advanced technologies including large language models (LLMs), agentic artificial intelligence, and physical AI applications.

Purpose and Technology Utilization

The CoE is founded on the Tech Mahindra Optimized Framework and utilizes the Nvidia AI Enterprise software suite, incorporating tools like NeMo, NIM microservices, and Rapids. These resources enable the creation of tailored, enterprise-grade AI applications that can significantly enhance productivity. Agentic AI, in particular, facilitates improved learning and decision-making capabilities in applications.

Applications Across Multiple Sectors

Moreover, the CoE is also leveraging the Nvidia Omniverse platform to create connected industrial AI digital twins and develop physical AI solutions across various industries. Sectors such as manufacturing, automotive, telecommunications, healthcare, and banking are among those set to benefit from these advancements.

Project Indus 2.0

As a part of this initiative, Tech Mahindra has introduced Project Indus 2.0, an advanced AI model specifically designed for the Indian context. This model is powered by NeMo and focuses on languages such as Hindi, Bhojpuri, Dogri, and Maithili. The aim is to serve industries such as retail, banking, healthcare, and citizen services within India. Future developments for Indus 2.0 include incorporating agentic workflows and support for additional dialects.

Strategic Collaborations

Tech Mahindra is collaborating with Nvidia to set high standards in enterprise-level AI development. The integration of generative AI, industrial AI, and sovereign large language models is a core aspect of their strategy to improve operational efficiency in global enterprises. According to Atul Soneja, the Chief Operating Officer at Tech Mahindra, this collaboration is pivotal for advancing AI integration in various sectors.

Customer Service Innovations

In addition to the CoE, Tech Mahindra plans to utilize the Nvidia NIM Agent Blueprint, which focuses on enhancing customer service operations. This blueprint will assist call center clients in creating custom virtual assistants that work alongside human agents to expedite issue resolution.

Location and Future Directions

The Centre of Excellence will be located in Tech Mahindra's Makers Lab, situated in Pune and Hyderabad, providing a hub for innovation and development. John Fanelli, the Vice President of Enterprise Software at Nvidia, emphasized that this CoE will play a crucial role in accelerating the adoption of tailored AI solutions for diverse industries in India.
