BYD's Strategy to Make Intelligent Driving Commonplace

Published February 11, 2025

On February 10, BYD hosted an event titled "Eye of the Gods: Pioneering the Era of Intelligent Driving for All" where Group President Wang Chuanfu shared exciting news about the future of their vehicles. He announced that every BYD model will soon feature advanced intelligent driving systems, appealing to a wide range of customers across different price points.

This initiative will cover vehicles at various price segments: models below 100,000 yuan, those priced between 100,000 and 200,000 yuan, as well as models above 200,000 yuan. This includes popular series such as Han, Tang, Song, Seal, Sea Lion, Dolphin, and Seagull.

One major challenge that has hindered the widespread use of intelligent driving is its high cost, making it less accessible for many consumers. With the launch of the "Intelligent Driving for All" strategy, BYD aims to make these advanced driving technologies more affordable and widely available throughout their entire range of vehicles.

BYD's Advantages in Intelligent Driving

Wang Chuanfu outlined three significant advantages that position BYD to lead in this field. Firstly, BYD possesses the largest vehicle-cloud database in China, which they referred to as an "ocean" of data compared to other companies. Secondly, they have the world’s largest engineering team, which includes over 110,000 research and development engineers, with more than 5,000 specifically focused on intelligent driving technologies. Additionally, BYD has its own AI supercomputing center to support these innovations.

Finally, BYD operates the largest production and manufacturing base for new energy vehicles globally. According to Wang, the challenge of popularizing intelligent driving technologies is not only technical but also industrial. He predicts that within the next 2 to 3 years, intelligent driving features will become essential for car buyers.

The Future of Intelligent Driving

Wang stated that advanced intelligent driving systems will soon be as crucial as basic safety features like seatbelts and airbags. He expressed the belief that vehicles without such features will become increasingly rare. He anticipates that the year 2025 will mark the start of the "Era of Intelligent Driving for All," urging potential buyers to consider intelligent driving capabilities when selecting a vehicle. "For those planning to buy a car this year, the first thing to check is whether it has intelligent driving features," he emphasized.

BYD's ambitious approach represents a major shift in the automotive industry, aiming to make advanced driving technologies standard across all price segments, ensuring that more consumers can enjoy the benefits of intelligent driving.
