X's Subscription Price Soars 82% After Launching Grok 3
In a significant move, X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, has announced a major price increase to its Premium+ subscription. Starting Tuesday, April 18, 2025, the monthly cost for Premium+ will rise from $22 to $40, reflecting an increase of 81.8%.
This latest adjustment marks the second price hike for the Premium+ membership in just three months. Previously, the subscription was elevated from $16 to $22 in December 2024.
The Premium+ plan offers a variety of features, including an ad-free experience, priority in replies, and the ability to publish articles without restrictions. Another key benefit for subscribers is access to Grok, X's own artificial intelligence model.
On the same day, X launched the latest version of Grok, known as Grok 3. Elon Musk has described this version as "scary smart" and claims it to be the "smartest AI on earth." In a demonstration held on Monday evening, Musk and a small team of xAI developers showcased Grok 3's advanced learning capabilities, claiming it outperforms well-established models like OpenAI's ChatGPT and DeepSeek, a popular AI model from China, especially in areas such as mathematics, science, and coding.
These bold assertions align with recent events in the AI sector for Musk. Just a week prior, he made headlines by proposing a staggering $97.4 billion bid for OpenAI's controlling nonprofit, a move that was swiftly rejected by OpenAI's board.
Additionally, Musk is set to participate in an interview with former President Donald Trump, scheduled to air on Tuesday evening on Fox News.
