Krafton and Nvidia Collaborate on New AI Gaming Technology
SEOUL, Jan. 7 (Yonhap) -- Krafton Inc., a prominent South Korean gaming company, announced that it has partnered with the global technology leader Nvidia Corp. to develop a cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) technology aimed at transforming the gaming experience for players.
At the recently held Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 in Las Vegas, the two companies introduced their innovative co-playable character (CPC) technology. This new technology enhances the way gamers interact with computer-controlled in-game characters, making communication more intuitive and responsive.
The CPCs are powered by an advanced small language model created by Nvidia, allowing them to understand and react dynamically to various situations within games. This is a significant improvement over traditional non-player characters (NPCs), which typically follow fixed patterns and exhibit limited interaction.
Krafton asserts that it and Nvidia are pioneers in this field, claiming to be the first to develop such technology. Krafton intends to integrate the CPC technology into its popular game titles, including the widely acclaimed battle royale game, PUBG: Battlegrounds, and its life simulation game, inZOI, which is set to launch later this year.
According to Krafton’s CEO, Kim Chang-han, the company is committed to collaborating closely with Nvidia to enhance user experiences through unique AI-driven technologies like the CPC. He expressed a vision of paving a new path for the global gaming industry.
Keita Lida, who serves as the vice president of developer relations at Nvidia, echoed this sentiment, stating that AI is significantly altering both the development and playing of games. He emphasized that the CPC technology is set to offer exceptional experiences within the gaming world, enabling a new level of engagement for players worldwide.
