Apple Introduces Visual Intelligence to iPhone 15 Pro Models

Published February 21, 2025

Apple is set to bring its exciting Visual Intelligence feature to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models. This capability is already available on the newly released iPhone 16 series, including the budget-friendly iPhone 16e, which was announced recently.

Visual Intelligence is a collection of tools that users can access by clicking and holding the camera control button. This allows users to aim their camera at a business and immediately view crucial information such as hours of operation, menus, services offered, and the business's website.

If the business offers it, users can even make reservations or place orders directly through their device.

This feature represents a more advanced, AI-driven enhancement compared to Google Lens, which initially launched on Android phones in 2017. The Visual Intelligence of Apple provides a modernized experience for users.

However, with the iPhone 15 models lacking a dedicated camera control, activating Visual Intelligence will be done differently. In the newer iPhone 16 models, including the 16e, this feature is enabled through the Action Control button, which is likely how it will function on the iPhone 15 Pro models as well.

Technology blogger John Gruber shared information on his Daring Fireball blog, stating that Apple representatives indicated that iPhone 15 Pro owners will soon have the option to link their Action Button to Visual Intelligence in an upcoming software update. Gruber speculated that this update could be iOS 18.4, which may enter beta testing shortly.

Some might find it curious that Apple did not activate this feature for the iPhone 15 Pro at an earlier date, as they may have chosen to wait for the announcement of the iPhone 16e.

Furthermore, with the recent launch of the iPhone 16e featuring an OLED display, Apple has officially moved away from selling phones with LCD panels. The previously available iPhone SE 3 was the last model featuring an LCD screen, marking a complete transition to OLED in the iPhone lineup.

This transition is significant as it means that Apple can optimize its iOS software without the limitations of LCD technology, allowing it to fully utilize the wide range of colors and brightness that OLED provides.
