Apple May Rename iPhone 17 Pro Max to iPhone 17 Ultra, New Leak Suggests
Apple is reportedly considering renaming the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max to the iPhone 17 Ultra, according to insights from a Korean leaker known as yeux1122.
In a recent blog post, the leaker shared information about three significant changes expected for the iPhone 17 Ultra. The upcoming device is set to be the sole variant in the iPhone 17 lineup featuring a smaller Dynamic Island, a vapor chamber cooling system, and a larger battery.
Previously, analyst Jeff Pu indicated that the iPhone 17 Pro Max might come with a 'much narrowed Dynamic Island.' However, this claim seems to conflict with another statement by well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who asserted that the iPhone 17 would not include a smaller Dynamic Island. The Korean leaker responded to these conflicting reports by noting that based on orders placed with suppliers, there would be insufficient components to support both the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, implying that only the iPhone 17 Ultra would utilize the smaller Dynamic Island design.
Furthermore, the leaker claimed that the iPhone 17 Ultra would be the only model equipped with a vapor chamber cooling system. This feature was previously rumored to be available in either the iPhone 17 Pro models or across the entire iPhone 17 range. As for battery specifications, the blog mentioned that the iPhone 17 Ultra would come with a larger battery. A Chinese leaker known as Ice Universe had previously suggested that Apple might need to increase the thickness of the iPhone 17 Pro Max to accommodate this larger battery.
The lineup for the iPhone 17 series, expected to launch in September 2025, is said to include the following models: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Ultra.
Nonetheless, it remains uncertain whether Apple will officially adopt the 'Ultra' branding for their high-end iPhone 17 model. Fans and industry watchers will need to wait until the iPhone 17's official launch to confirm the accuracy of these rumors.
