Google to Transition from Google Assistant to Gemini

Tech giant Google has announced plans to replace the Google Assistant on Android devices with a new assistant named Gemini later this year. This transition marks a significant shift in Google's approach to virtual assistants, as they aim to enhance user experience with advanced AI capabilities.

In a recent blog post, Google stated that they will begin upgrading users on mobile devices from Google Assistant to Gemini in the upcoming months. Users can expect that Google Assistant will no longer be accessible on mobile devices or available for downloads by the end of this year.

“Furthermore, we will be updating tablets, cars, and devices that connect to your phone, including headphones and smartwatches, to Gemini,” Google mentioned in the announcement. They are also planning to introduce a version of Gemini for home devices such as speakers, displays, and televisions, offering a unified experience across various platforms.

Until the transition is completed, Google Assistant will continue its operation on the mentioned devices. Google assured that they are dedicated to enhancing the Gemini user experience before phasing out Assistant, particularly for those who rely heavily on it. Some frequently requested features have already been added to Gemini on Android devices, including the ability to play music, set timers, and take actions directly from the lock screen.

This shift to Gemini aligns with the recent release of the Google Pixel 9 lineup, which debuted with Gemini as its built-in virtual assistant. Google highlighted that Gemini introduces certain advanced features that were unavailable in Assistant, providing users with innovative support. For example, Gemini Live enables fluid, multimodal conversations, while the Deep Research function turns Gemini into a personal research assistant, showcasing the capabilities of AI.
