Elon Musk's xAI to Launch Grok AI Chatbot App to Challenge ChatGPT
Elon Musk’s xAI is reportedly preparing to introduce a standalone application for its Grok AI chatbot. This move aims to position Grok as a direct competitor to OpenAI’s popular ChatGPT.
Based on a recent report by The Wall Street Journal, xAI is looking to roll out its app by December, entering the competitive landscape of artificial intelligence chatbots dominated by OpenAI.
Musk founded xAI last year with a vision to create alternatives to existing AI platforms. While initially aligned with OpenAI, Musk distanced his efforts due to differing ideologies and has even initiated legal action against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, on two occasions.
Currently, xAI provides AI-powered customer support through its Grok chatbot, which is exclusively accessible to premium users on the social media platform X. As of this month, xAI has reached a valuation of $50 billion, with projections suggesting it could exceed $100 million in annual revenue.
Remarkably, xAI’s valuation has eclipsed that of X, which Musk acquired for $44 billion. Yet, it remains smaller than OpenAI, which was valued at approximately $157 billion in October.
As the AI landscape continues to evolve, the launch of Grok could significantly alter competition in the sector, especially as both these companies push forward with their respective technologies.
